Uses 52 weeks a year. Charge-out rate = cost rate ÷ (1 − target margin). Estimates only. Check current KiwiSaver and ACC rates for your business.

How the calculator works

  1. Cost per hour worked: yearly costs ÷ (hours per week × 52 × staff). In employee mode, yearly cost = salary + KiwiSaver or super + ACC or workers’ comp + overhead loading.
  2. Cost per billable hour: cost per hour worked ÷ billable %. Your billable hours have to pay for the time you can’t bill.
  3. Charge-out rate: cost per billable hour ÷ (1 − target margin).

Markup is shown too, because a 25% margin needs a 33.3% markup. Read margin vs markup to see why.
