This is a day that many of you have been waiting for, if you’re a musician then perhaps you can give us a drum roll!
Task Dependencies have arrived!
To start the week with a bang, from Monday, you will have new superpowers in your Project Timeline, true Gantt Chart capabilities are yours to wield!
The below short tutorial gives you a heads up on how the new Task Dependencies will help you manage your Projects even more effectively.
So what has changed?
- You can create Task Dependencies from within the Timeline by hovering over the Task and clicking and dragging one of the blue dots to create the appropriate dependent or prerequisite relationship between two Tasks.
- You will be able to see dependent and prerequisite relationships that have already been set-up in your Timeline.
- To make it easier to add dates to a Task without a start or due date, we’ve added a small calendar icon next to the Tasks in the Timeline section on the side. Hitting it will put the Task on the Timeline at today’s date. From there you can drag and drop it as appropriate.
- If a Dependent Task is set to start before its prerequisite is finished, the tool will make you aware of the error with a highlighted red dependency line. It’s a simple precaution that can save you a lot of trouble down the line.
- We have added a Critical Path function at the top left of the timeline. Any delay to a Task on the Critical Path will delay the Project as a whole, making these Tasks even more important.
- Tasks with uncompleted prerequisites are shown slightly opaque on the Timeline. You also have the option to prevent any time being tracked on these tasks until they’ve been activated.
- You can also use the Add/Edit Task function to setup dependencies and prerequisites. This means you will be able to arrange these relationships from the Task Template stage, saving you a lot of planning time.
Easy interacting with your Timeline
Interacting with the ProWorkflow Timeline has always been a joy. But we’ve made it even better. In addition to the old favorite ways to interact with your ProWorkflow Timeline, we added a few new ways.
You can still:
- Use the Control or Command key to select multiple Tasks.
- Double click the Project bar to select all active Tasks in a Project.
- Extend Tasks and move them by clicking and dragging them.
But on top of that you can now also:
- You can select all Tasks inside a certain area by simply clicking and dragging the area. You can even use it in conjunction with the Control or Command key feature to select multiple Task groups.
- You can move a set of dependent Tasks by double-clicking one of the Tasks to select it and all of the Tasks that depend on it.
Getting help when you are stuck
The ‘Show Tips’ button is very useful in quickly getting you up and running you with some easy Timeline tips and tricks you will want to know about.
